Jerry Vezzuso

Jerry Vezzuso, b. 1943 Brooklyn, NY, is an artist, photographer and educator living and working in New York City. He graduated from the School of Visual Arts with a major in fine arts. He is currently on the faculty of the School of Visual Arts and Teachers College at Columbia University. Vezzuso has conducted portfolio reviews in Mexico for young photographers on occasion. He is a cofounder of the Tierney Fellowship in Photography. In 1986 his book New American Haircuts was published by Ballentine Books. The book is being formatted into a magazine format; Photoville published a limited edition for 2012 with an exhibit called Model Release.

Vezzuso's work deals with personal experiences from his 30 years of photographing his Italian family Looking Homeward and Table of Contents. Other recent projects entail him drawing people in Starbucks coffee shops, and his work Post 9/11 Platform Project. During the 1980s he was the photographer for the LaMama Experimental Theater on East 4th St NYC and created their archive.

Vezzuso's work is in the collection of the Brooklyn Museum of Art, the Museum of the City of New York, and many private collections. He is the recipient of the New York Foundation for the Arts Special Artists Grant. He has widely published and exhibited in many galleries. Most recently he has exhibited his work in Foley Gallery and United Photo Industries in New York City. His work has appeared in numerous publications; most recently in Dear Dave.
