Jane Greer

Jane Greer, b. 1936 Brooklyn, is New York City based artist working in sculpture, cut paper, painting, photography and poetry. Greer earned a BFA from New York University and studied at the Arts Student League.

Greer’s work is defined by an adaptability to material and circumstance. Although she began her career as a sculptor, Greer currently works in cut paper, paint, drawing, photography and writing. Her studio process centers around intricately cut paper figures which are either preserved as independent pieces or mounted on wood, canvas or paper grounds. Greer often colors these ground with acrylic washes and pastel drawings before arranging the cutouts on top. She has also written and published several books of poetry and photography though out her lifetime. The sculpture, painting, cutouts and books are all tied together by a compulsion to create and a devotion to living the life of an artist.

Greer has exhibited her work widely throughout the United States and internationally. Exhibition highlights include: Aegis Gallery in New York in 1963; Franklin Furnance in New York in 1979; A.I.R. Gallery in New York in 1995 and 1997; Wildenstein in Tokyo, Japan in 1999; Gallery Henoch in New York in 2000 and 2001; Artefact Prado Gallery in Zurich, Switzerland in 2006; and Borey Art Gallery in St. Petersburg, Russia in 2006. Her work is represented by numerous collections; highlights include: New York University; Chrysler Art Museum in Norfolk, VA; Southeast Bank of Florida; and the Minneapolis Institute of Art.
