Bruce W. Greenwood

Bruce W. Greenwood, born in Glens Falls, New York, but raised in Philadelphia, joined New York’s creative community in 1980. He has over twenty years experience in professional theatrical stage production, where he worked in various areas including drama, music, dance, visual arts, sound and lighting design. Greenwood earned a BA from Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania.

Greenwood frequently uses found objects in his work and often juxtaposes materials such as paint, paper, metal, tinted joint compound, and oil pastels on wooden backgrounds in unique ways. He feels his pieces are “often monochromatic, sometimes sculptural” and vary in size and level of subtlety. He believes his compositions allow “the properties of a chosen medium to dictate a piece’s narrative content.”

As a performer, writer, and producer, Greenwood was associated with The Jazz Center of New York, The Universal Jazz Coalition, The Writer’s Theater, and Dixon Place in New York. It was during this time that he began creating visual art as well, first showing work in New York at The Castillo Cultural Center in 1995 (“AIDS Related Treasures”). His first solo show took place at Guild Gallery II, Chelsea in 2010. Greenwood’s work has also been shown in numerous group exhibitions at venues including Art Bar, Jadite Gallery, Castillo Cultural Center and Hudson Guild (I, II). His pieces are also included in numerous private collections.
